1. A for Athens (Monastiraki)
The classic. Direct, unobstructed Acropolis view from the Monastiraki Square building. The cocktails are solid (€12-15), the atmosphere is buzzy, and the view at sunset is unbeatable. Arrive by 6pm in summer or prepare to queue. Open until 2am. Monastiraki metro exit, turn left — you can't miss the sign.
2. 360 Cocktail Bar (Monastiraki)
One floor below A for Athens in the same building, 360 offers a 360-degree panorama — Acropolis on one side, Monastiraki Square and the Ancient Agora on the other. Slightly more relaxed vibe, excellent cocktails (€10-14). Great for sunset and stays lively until 2am. Try the Basil Smash.
3. Couleur Locale (Monastiraki)
A hidden gem on the 3rd floor of a building on Normanou Street. Smaller, more intimate, with a bohemian vibe. The Acropolis feels close enough to touch. Cocktails €10-13. The rooftop is covered in plants and fairy lights. Less touristy than A for Athens. Open from 10am — great for a daytime coffee with a view too.
4. MS Roof (Psyrri)
Inside the boutique Monsieur Didot hotel, this small rooftop is pure elegance. The view is slightly angled but still stunning. Cocktails are expertly made (€12-16). The crowd is stylish and the music is chill. Perfect for a date. Reservations recommended on weekends.
5. Thea Terrace (Thiseio)
Apostolou Pavlou is the sunset strip of Athens, and Thea Terrace at the Phidias Hotel is one of its best-kept secrets. Direct Acropolis view, no crowds, excellent value cocktails (€8-12). The terrace is simple but the view does all the work. Go for sunset, stay for the temple floodlighting at dusk.
6. Anglais Athens (Monastiraki)
On Kirikeiou Street near Monastiraki, Anglais is a speakeasy-style rooftop above a fashion boutique. Small, stylish, with Acropolis and Lycabettus views. Cocktails are creative (€12-15) and the music is vinyl-based. Feels like a private party. Open from 8pm, closed Sundays.
7. Skyfall (Syntagma)
The newest rooftop on the block, atop the Electra Metropolis Hotel. The view sweeps from the Acropolis to Lycabettus to the Parliament. Poolside bar with sophisticated cocktails (€14-18). Dress smart — this is Athens' glamour rooftop. Open from 5pm. Great for a special occasion.
8. Bios (Kerameikos/Gazi)
For something completely different — Bios is a cultural centre rooftop in Gazi with an alternative crowd. The Acropolis view is distant but the vibe is pure Athens underground: experimental music, art installations and a young, creative crowd. Cheap drinks (€6-10). Open until late on weekends.
