Psyrri
Psyrri is one of Athens' oldest quarters, reborn in the 1990s into the city's trendiest dining and nightlife hub, centred on Iroon (Heroes) Square.
Where to eat & drink
Its lanes are packed with live-music tavernas, mezedopoleia and ouzeries pouring tsipouro, plus late cocktail bars. The writer Alexandros Papadiamantis lived here for over twenty years.
What to see
Heroes (Iroon) Square is the heart of the area; it sits between Monastiraki and Thiseio, a short walk to the Ancient Agora and the Acropolis.
Getting around
Monastiraki (lines 1 & 3) and Thiseio (line 1) metros border Psyrri; the airport is a direct ride on line 3.
Safety
Psyrri is gentrified and lively day and night; keep an eye on belongings in crowded lanes after midnight.
